Through its open innovation project (E3), MBDA was searching beyond the Defence sector for novel technologies to reduce human exposure to threats in urban warfare. The Knowledge Transfer Network provided valuable assistance in this endeavour by connecting MBDA with Southampton University. Southampton University had previously developed and demonstrated sense-making technologies for disaster relief applications and through a project funded by the Defence and Security Accelerator will now prove their utility in a military setting. The project aims to use multi-agent coordination technologies to make better use of teams of unmanned aerial vehicles operating with a human team in highly dynamic and uncertain environments
